This was a relatively quick read and definitely more mystery than thriller. While the murders of a bride and groom are supposed to be the main draw, one of the most interesting parts for me was actually everything I learned along the way about the wedding traditions and the day-by-day events surrounding the celebration. Those details added something different to the story and managed to be educational without feeling like I was getting a history lesson.

As for the mystery itself, some parts worked really well while others felt a little far-fetched. By the time the murderer is revealed, the reasoning behind it all felt pretty out there. Even with the explanation we’re given, I was still sitting there thinking, Really? That’s why we’re doing all this?

And then there’s Shay.

This woman had me questioning whether she possessed a single self-preservation instinct. 😂 She constantly went back and forth about who she trusted, then agreed to meet these same people alone so they could “talk.” Even better, she would proceed to tell them all her theories and suspicions.

Like, girl! Maybe keep a few thoughts to yourself until you know whether you’re sitting across from a murderer.

Overall, it was a good mystery and entertaining enough that I finished it in a day. Although, if I’m being fair, a good portion of that motivation came from simply needing to know who did it.

3 stars. Interesting setting and cultural details, decent mystery, but some of the explanations and character decisions required me to just go with it.
